Hmmm...maybe I should do this. I started out writing stories with pencil and notebook paper in elementary school before I got my computer.

Same here - I remember scribbling in a notebook for fun when I was young - perhaps that's why it feels more playful when we go back to it! It's certainly worth a try...

As I grow older, I find that the greatest joys in life are in the attempt to embrace the joy of childhood. I have always written stories, ever since I was a kid; probably before I knew how to write, I would tell stories to my siblings and family. And before I knew how to type, there was only one way to do that: pen and paper. During Covid, when I found myself really struggling to write, pen and paper helped to unblock me, just as you found, and I think one of the major reasons for that is it allowed me to remember that writing can be joyous and fun.

I know exactly what you mean. I turn back to the old stories and comics I loved when I was young in order to remind myself of the joy of storytelling. And scribbling in notebooks gives me a similar unconscious signal: I can play with words without putting so much weight on my work. Best of luck with your own writing!
