Yup. Like you said here (or in another piece; I just read several of yours), we write stories for reasons that are sometimes unclear. For ourselves? Yes. To communicate with others? Yes, if possible. Storytelling, unlike, say, knitting or painting (which you can wear or hang on your own wall) requires listeners. I mean, it’s challenging and fun to write for oneself, but we make up stories to SHARE. Hence publishing. And the sense of failure or success dependent on it. But we carry on!

Exactly. The impulse to write fiction is a strange old thing that I'll never fully understand, yet somehow it remains so vital. The collective encouragement on Substack is proving a real boost, so thank you again for stopping by, and very best of luck with your own creations
