Fascinating. I must have missed the mention of ghostwriting last week. 2500 words a day--wow! I guess that's working full-time? Can we know what genre the book is, or is that still too much? A couple of years ago I was hired to write the novel for an indie videogame in someone else's world. Sadly it was mostly a soul-destroying experience, as it turned out the client didn't really care/know about quality (I also had to break up the narrative with a cue for a battle every 750 words!). However, I've written two other novels where I posted them to be read as they were being written, and the experience was absolutely exhilarating--my YA novel WEAKLING and SAGA OF THE JEWELS vol1 (on a different website). Getting feedback in real time is thrilling and really drives creative motivation, I can also attest.

Thanks for reading, Faenon. Writing a tie-in for a video game sounds like it could have been great fun - I'm sorry it went sour. From what I can see, it's not unusual for these projects to go badly wrong. I think I got lucky with my current one. It's certainly given me a taste of that real-time storytelling you talk about, and I'd like to give it a try on here at some point. Did you say you were going to launch a new Saga of the Jewels? If so, I'll be sure to follow along from the start!

Well if you try out the serial fiction game sometime I will definitely follow along from the start too! My way of doing it is to serial-publish a clean first draft online (Wattpad, RoyalRoad, and/or Substack) under a pseudonym, then edit it later for submission to literary agents and indie publication if it doesn't land an agent. Free feedback, and fun, which drives motivation. No new Saga of the Jewels, no. However I am planning on experimenting with a newer serial fiction platform, Ream, by intermittently publishing chapters from a new story there, which you'll see advertised via my stack sometime soon :) Substack isn't actually the best place for it in my experience as I've said in my most-read substack post here: https://sagaofthejewels.substack.com/p/five-things-i-learned-serialising
